14/08 EU Questions on .eu

It's been weeks now that I meant to summarize several Written Questions by Members of the European Parliament. Thanks to Stéphane, whose recent post made me realize how late I was!How much did it cost to the Commission to switch from .eu.int to .eu? The Commission does not know.Has the Commission examined the possibility that the launch of .eu in the world market of domain names might affect the economic interests of other previously existing top level domains in EU Member States? .eu domain might, in some cases, be seen to compete with ccTLDs, but substantial demand for ccTLD will continue. The Consortium of European Research Libraries applied for cerl.eu, and its application was rejected. What can the Commission do? Ask Cedric Manara ;-) (or see the Commission's answer)McMahon Associates applied for the domain name of mcmahon.eu, and did not get it (did you hear me well, McMahon Associates did not manage to have mcmahon.eu)? See previous answer, or the Commission's.During Sunrise II, 9403 Danish companies applied for an .eu domain name but 5527 went away empty-handed because of complex rules? Sorry. Many generic terms have been applied for on the basis of prior rights. What does the Commission think of this? Presumption of validity (echo). What steps have been taken to prevent abuse of the two Sunrise phases? Documentary evidence, validation agent, ADR... (plus the Commission is not a body for appeal and the legal framework for the .eu TLD does not foresee a possibility for the Commission to re-allocate domain names itself nor to order such a re-allocation).Extra-judicial fees are not too high, no they are not.Commission's opinion on EURid "leak", on warehousing on eligibility.- Prof. Cedric Manara [Content under License] Lire la suite sur Cédric Manara
